Introduction: Does Your Jump Rope Actually Work?
Most jump ropes promise a good workout, but not all deliver. At Crossrope, we've always believed that innovation and quality are paramount in crafting the ultimate workout experience. That's why when faced with the question of whether generic jump ropes could hold their own against AMP, we saw it as an opportunity to put our hypothesis to the test.
In this case study, we delve into an experiment that aimed to uncover the truth: Are generic ropes truly comparable to the precision engineering and design of the Crossrope Amp system? With the fitness industry inundated with options, each claiming to be the best, it was crucial to gather real data from real users to see if we could prove what truly sets AMP apart.
The Case Study: Crossrope AMP vs. Generic Jump Rope
Our study enlisted 13 participants from diverse backgrounds across the US and Canada, all new to the Crossrope experience. Over four weeks, participants completed a comprehensive trial, using a generic $10 jump rope for the initial two weeks, followed by the Crossrope AMP set for the subsequent two weeks.
The Key Metrics We Tracked
Throughout the study, participants engaged in three weekly workouts, documenting their progress and offering insights on their experience. In addition to reporting on their workout stats (such as calories burned and number of jumps), they shared feedback on their experience:
-
How effective were your workouts this week?
-
How difficult were your workouts this week?
-
Do you feel improvement in your jumping ability compared to your jump rope workouts last week?
-
Do you feel motivated to continue jumping rope as exercise?
-
How have your jump rope workouts this week compared to your experience with previous fitness routines or home workouts?
After collecting these weekly surveys and vlogs from everyone to pulse their progress each step of the way, we then conducted a final interview to get feedback on their entire experience. In that interview, we dug deeper into their previous fitness preferences and if they were planning to include jumping rope in their workout routine moving forward. We asked them to share more about the physical experience and if they had any positive health transformations after jumping rope for a month. And of course, we asked participants to directly compare the two ropes: Was the generic rope or AMP easier to use? Which did you get a better workout with?
What We Found: AMP Leads in Every Category
We compiled the qualitative and quantitative data following the experience and guess what? Our hypothesis was proved! Crossrope AMP is the superior fitness experience. Don’t just take our word for it. Here are the experiment results:
100% of participants struggled with the generic rope and said it made it hard to get into a flow. Half wanted to quit before the AMP phase began.
100% of participants reported struggling with the generic rope, noting that the lightweight rope’s lack of form made it so that they had to focus on jumping over the rope so much that they couldn’t get a good workout in.
55% of participants reported that they were actually ready to quit the study due to difficulty of jumping with the generic rope.
Based on that, unsurprisingly 100% of the participants agreed that AMP is worth the price.
“The amp jump rope is a game changer love the extra weight and challenge of it”
“Loving the challenge of the weighted rope, and that I can put quite a bit of demand on my body in less time.”
0% of the participants were able to get a good workout in with the generic rope.
App Experience: Intuitive and Motivating
- 100% said AMP was easy to set up and use.
- 77% praised TargetTrainer for keeping them focused and fired up.
“More effective in a short amount of time.”
“The stats keep me pushing harder each session.”
Physical Feedback: Big Gains, Zero Pain
We had several pre-existing ailments identified by participants at the beginning of the study including bad knees, a missing collar bone, and several lumbar issues; 0% of participants reported having any discomfort or physical limitations while using the Crossrope AMP. We instead received feedback that the experience facilitated heightened body awareness, enabling participants to identify and address weaknesses previously unnoticed.
“I enjoy it, it's definitely not boring. Tough full body workout.”
“I'm surprised how much of a full body workout it is.”
“It’s unique in that it doesn’t feel like a traditional workout”
Beginner ability: 100% of the participants recommended Crossrope over the generic rope for beginners. They noted that the learning curve on technique was shorter with Crossrope due to weight and structure of ropes, the structure of the workouts in the app made it easier to get a good workout in, and that the analytics with AMP made seeing progress and progression easier.
